Alice in Wonderland

I'm so close to finishing my latest piece and am eager to reveal the whole thing, but it's missing a detail up top that's rather important.  Trouble is, I've been waiting for Mr. Wonderful to help me with a compound angle cut because I'm too intimidated to try it on my own.

His schedule's been downright crazy with fishing trips to Valdez, hunting moose with our two boys, and back-to-back shifts at the fire station.  I'm hoping he'll be up to a little woodworking after church tomorrow......A very little I promise, hon!

Anyway, I snapped a couple pictures tonight because I just couldn't take the wait anymore.  I'm eager to hear what you think of this piece.

Remember when I said last post I was feeling a little crazy?  Let me just say that once I got the yellow on...

...a sudden surge of inspiration brought to mind this certain 1/2 yard of fabric I'd been drooling over in my stash for about 3 months now.  So I ran up to got it, held it up to the yellow...

....and as they say, 'The rest is history.'

Is that not too sweet for words?  For some reason Alice in Wonderland keeps coming to mind.....is it the color combination??  Can't you just see this darling piece in a little girl's room full of bunnies and Charlotte's Web and wire baskets holding all kinds of girlie trinkets?

I hope to have the whole thing done tomorrow to show the final piece; I hauled a few display items out to the garage tonight to give it some character against those chalk-white walls while I snapped some photos.

I finished this whole piece with my own chalk paint recipe, then waxed with Annie Sloan Soft Wax after distressing.  I was concerned the chalk paint may not adhere as well as other paints, but I need not have worried.  This stuff is amazing.  Even after running my plastic measuring cup through an entire dishwasher cycle after not rinsing the paint off very well, it was still there.

I'm sold.

I will probably return to my normal neutral-to-blues broadcasting again on my next piece, but it sure was fun playing with color on this one.  And it's good to get out of my box occasionally.
