Master Room Nightstands

In between math lessons, Chinese calligraphy, and writing assignments with my kids this week, I'm working on making some headway to finish our master bedroom.

We painted the walls and trim two weeks ago, so Monday evening I finished painting the two doors to match the trim.  Sherwin Williams Alabaster White ~ it's a beautiful white.  I almost want to say it has a creamy look, but it's certainly not yellowish.  It's the same white I used on our fireplace surround.

Yesterday, though, I began the transformation of our two nightstands.  We've had these nightstands for years; I originally purchased them at a liquidation store in Soldotna.  I remember seeing them for the first time and thinking, "LOVE!"  Although I've been gradually moving away from this wood tone in our home, the shape still delights me:

I didn't bother to haul them to the garage for painting ~ just whipped out an old drop cloth and went at it.  I used the same color we have on the walls since I plan to bring in accent colors with accessories and fabrics.  I just mixed up a quick chalk paint with Sherwin Williams Realist Beige and painted one coat right over the sheen of the original wood (this still scares me! But the chalk paint adheres beautifully so far...)

After letting the chalk paint dry a couple hours, I painted a few accent places Alabaster White (the top, front and side panels, and bottom shelf insert).  Just before snapping this shot, I added a glass knob to see if I liked it.

I think I do :)

Next step is distressing and antiquing, but already I'm tickled with the results.  Once again I'm reminded what a difference a little paint can make.
