Furniture On Its Way!

I'm very excited! I received a phone call from the shipping company this morning and they will be delivering our new king-size bedframe tomorrow!

I've always been hesitant to commit to a king-size bed.  I told Mr. Wonderful I was afraid it would be too....

...impersonal

How far would I have to reach across the bed to know his warm body was beside me?

As it is now, on our queen-size bed, I bump into him all night long.  This, oddly enough, is a huge comfort to me.

However, all the couples we've talked to who have a king-size bed say they wish they'd done it years earlier.  "You'll never regret it" is the sentiment we hear over and over and over.

We took the plunge when we were in Seattle a couple weeks ago.  They had this king-size bedframe on display, and it was marked 60% off because it was the floor model and they were ready to replace it with something new.

Did you hear that?  60% off!!  Even with shipping to Alaska, it was cheaper than anything we'd priced.

We are very excited about this new bed.  Not only will it give us a lot of wiggle room, we both LOVE the look of it.  Masculine and feminine at the same time.  Authentic and stylish.  And it will fit so well with everything else we are doing in our house.

I love it when Mr. Wonderful and I share a similar vision with decorating.  It makes the process twice as fun :-)

We actually went a little crazy that day in Seattle, in that one store.  Can anyone guess which store I'm talking about?  Here are a couple more clues:

When I've seen these chairs in this store's catalog, I've always thought they were quite fun.  Not really sure who would buy them, but sitting in them was a kick.  Did you know they have actual cowhide wrapped around the back?  Quite amazing, really.

While there, we also bought two of these chairs to use for a sitting area in our bedroom.  Also on a great sale, of course.  (Have I mentioned I've always wanted chairs like this in my house??)

The chairs were quite promptly delivered by UPS just last week, but one of them was broken so we had to send it back.  When Mr. Wonderful saw the one chair placed in the living room, he decided he wants to put the two chairs (when we get the replacement) in the living room instead.

I'm not convinced, but I've agreed to give it a try.  I still think the lower back is more suited for the bedroom and our higher-backed wing chairs go best in the living room, but we'll work it out.

And last but not least, the real reason we went shopping that day in Seattle, was to purchase two of these: (drum-roll please.....)

Isn't that an amazing piece?? swoon

I've been shopping for couches for a year.  I've looked at more couches than I can even list.  I've pondered and pondered, dreamed and dreamed, ordered fabric swatches, watched for stupendous sales.

See, when we buy furniture, it's a huge commitment because we plan to keep it a very long time.
The leather couches we have now have held up for over 12 years, and are still going strong.  We plan to utilize them in the family room downstairs, where we expect to get a lot more use out of them.

Better yet, we still love them.

As I mentioned in my last post, it's very hard for me to spend money on furniture that's not from a thrift store, so if we're going to spend money on new furniture, we both need to be 100% convinced that we LOVE it.

Well, after sitting in this sofa in Seattle, I don't think love will be a problem :-)  I've had my eyes on this couch for over 9 months.  I love everything about it.  It's low, it's a work of art, it has awesome little castors for feet, it's extremely deep---almost like a daybed, really---and it's perfect for lounging and staying up late drinking lattes with my friends and family.

Here's a picture of Mr. Wonderful's face as the clerk was ringing up our purchases:

This is the face of a man who hates to spend money.  On anything.

Ever.

Does that look like a face of regret to you?  I didn't think so.

If you look real close, you can even see a little twinkle in his eye.

Which, alone, made this furniture shopping spree our best ever.

  1. Jody likey! :) Great picks on the furniture, sis (and Greg). I can't wait to see how the new couches look in your home. Wish I lived closer and could swindle you out of your leather couches. Justin and I are nowhere near the Restoration Hardware stage yet; but does that mean we shouldn't benefit from you guys being at that stage?

I think our hubbies could be twins when it comes to their "major purchase" faces.
